Fashion Week Prep: Day One

Hey lovelies, with Fashion week around the corner.....one week to be exact I just wanted to give you diamond divas some tips for being fashion week ready. Now I am by no means a NYFW expert but i’ve had my fair share of fashion week experiences to pick up a trick or two. So this will be a countdown to the big week to get you fab and fierce for the “Superbowl” of the industry!
Now in my book rule number one is simple.....know the designers names and how to pronounce them correctly! It doesn’t matter how fly your fit is or savvy and knowledgable you might be about your craft, if you don’t pronounce the designers name correctly you automatically look like a doorknob....yeah you know, dumb as a doorknob. Sorry but true, this is speaking from experience. My first year of fashion school was a HUGE challenge for me for so many reasons. Admittedly I was a total train wreck...for goodness sake i didn’t even know what UGGS were at the time and had no idea that my look-a-likes from Old Navy were the ultimate fashion faux pas. WHO KNEW! Combine that with the fact I had no idea how to pronounce the names of these major designers I was sitting in class learning about and you have ME...the ultimate fashion school train wreck, don’t worry it didn’t take me long to get it together. Oh but ask me any military acronym and I would have you covered probably in multiple languages with assignments in South Korea and Iraq. But ask me to say Yves Saint Laurent and I would fail miserably. After being laughed at by my roommates and even called out by a professor in front of the entire class I HAD to learn! No excuses. My roomies were a big help and got me together rather quickly, after all if I was gonna be hanging out with them there was no way I would embarrass them in public. I ran across many fashion scene newbies after that making my same mistakes, I always politely corrected them never calling them out in front of others. I know too well how awful that felt. If I could help out the next fashionistas from the embarrassment equivalent to a supermodel wiping out in front of everyone at the LIVE taping of the Victoria Secret runway show....I was more than happy too. Anywho, you live and you learn Divas so take notes and learn fast....6 more days to go dolls!!
BTW, I will be attending IFB, independent fashion bloggers conference so comment and I’ll be on the look out for ya!
